Source of Hope extended humanitarian support to Haiti following the devastating large-scale earthquake that occurred in the region on January 12, 2010. Over 250,000 people lost their lives and another 300,000 people sustained injuries in the disaster. Through donations from Source of Hope, nonprofit organization Partners in Health was able to broaden its emergency care capacity, addressing critical cases as soon as they reached its affiliated hospitals and clinics without requiring payment. Besides the initial emergency response, the grant from Source of Hope also funds long-term aid. To augment the capacity of healthcare providers in Haiti, Source of Hope also donated funds to establish a modern public hospital in Mirebalais. The hospital was the first public hospital in Haiti to have a CT scanner. In 2016, Source of Hope launched the Stephen Robert and Pilar Crespi Robert Regional Reference Laboratory at the University Hospital in Mirebalais. The lab features a pathology division, a clinical lab, and biosafety level 2 and 3 labs for handling and testing moderate- and high-risk biological agents for infectious diseases and toxins.

The Source of Hope Foundation extended humanitarian support to the Bahamas, which experienced significant destruction from Category 5 Hurricane Dorian in 2019. The hurricane was one of the most destructive hurricanes to ever hit the Atlantic in history. It resulted in 29,500 cases of homelessness across the Grand Bahama and Abaco Istands, as thousands of people lost their homes in debris. Abaco and the Grand Bahama Islands in The Bahamas were in destruction in the aftermath of the storm. The storm also annihilated the primary airport terminal on Grand Bahama, and debris and fallen trees ripped through the roads. Even for first responders and emergency personnel, reaching the islands posed an immense challenge. Source of Hope contributed monetary donations to Mercy Corps. The fund eventually facilitated the supply of medical equipment, lanterns, and other essentials to households. The storm had flooded aquifers, the primary sources of drinking water in the region. Mercy Corps was able to help some parts of the country access clean water. Stephen Robert, a financial industry expert, formerly served as the chairman and CEO of Oppenheimer Group Inc. in New York. According to reports, about 17 percent of admissions at the hospital are a function of serious complications resulting from adverse events unrelated to the patient’s existing medical state. This means that RME plays a vital role in quickly reviewing a patient’s condition to reduce the likelihood of morbidity. Time to Provider (TTP) is an essential aspect of patient satisfaction. RME ensures fluid treatment, guarantees positive TTP, and makes sure patients have access to care as fast as possible. Therefore, having an RME team in your hospital can help significantly reduce your hospital’s mortality rate. Also, having an RME team in your hospital helps improve patient outcomes. In 2022, Henry Street helped more than 44,000 people find healing as they sought to access medical care, find safe housing, get an education, build careers, overcome trauma, and expand their horizons through the arts. Henry Street was founded in 1893 by Lillian D. Wald, the 150th anniversary of whose birth the organization celebrated in 2017. The daughter of a prosperous Jewish family, Wald established Henry Street to offer nursing care and social services to poor immigrants living in crowded, unsanitary, and unsafe tenement housing. Wald was born in Cincinnati in 1867. At the age of 22, she moved to New York to train as a nurse, then worked in an orphanage and with new immigrant families. Her first-hand knowledge of the effects of poverty, overcrowding, and lack of medical care led Wald to dedicate herself to the needs of the tenement community. Wald coined the term “public health nurse” to describe the visiting nurse service she co-founded, which grew to provide hundreds of thousands of home visits annually. She also created one of the first public playgrounds in the city. Apart from her work with immigrant communities, she served as chair of the Red Cross fight against the 1918 influenza epidemic. She also advocated for the rights of women, children, workers, and Black Americans. A distinguished financial executive, Stephen Robert has successfully retired from his role as chairman and CEO of Oppenheimer Group, Inc. He also co-founded the Source of Hope Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting educational, health, and occupational initiatives in underprivileged communities. Stephen K. Robert is also a trustee at the Perez Art Museum in Miami (PAMM).
PAMM displays the Havana-based collective Los Carpinteros Sala de lectura octagonal (prototipo). When translated in English, Sala de lectura octagonal (prototipo) means octagonal reading room prototype. This prototype references the circular design of the panopticon prison. Philosopher Jeremy Bentham originally conceived the design. The Cuban government materialized the design in the Presidio Modelo during the 1920s. Los Carpinteros have repurposed the structure to provide readers with unrestricted visibility. Los Carpinteros crafted some of the most acclaimed art pieces from Latin America in the past decades. Three individuals established the collective in 1992. The majority of Los Carpinteros pieces explore the fusion of architecture, sculpture, drawing, and performance. |
