Stephen Robert is a successful financial professional who has had a significant impact throughout his career. He formerly served as the chairman and CEO of Oppenheimer Group. Long driven by a passion for philanthropy, Stephen K. Robert has transitioned to full-time dedication to humanitarian activities and is the co-founder of the Source of Hope Foundation.
Source of Hope extended humanitarian support to Haiti following the devastating large-scale earthquake that occurred in the region on January 12, 2010. Over 250,000 people lost their lives and another 300,000 people sustained injuries in the disaster. Through donations from Source of Hope, nonprofit organization Partners in Health was able to broaden its emergency care capacity, addressing critical cases as soon as they reached its affiliated hospitals and clinics without requiring payment. Besides the initial emergency response, the grant from Source of Hope also funds long-term aid. To augment the capacity of healthcare providers in Haiti, Source of Hope also donated funds to establish a modern public hospital in Mirebalais. The hospital was the first public hospital in Haiti to have a CT scanner. In 2016, Source of Hope launched the Stephen Robert and Pilar Crespi Robert Regional Reference Laboratory at the University Hospital in Mirebalais. The lab features a pathology division, a clinical lab, and biosafety level 2 and 3 labs for handling and testing moderate- and high-risk biological agents for infectious diseases and toxins.
